THE FERRARY STRIP OF FOUR – LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLE – UNIQUE

4c Blue, mint horizontal strip of four, being type 2 retouched (line of colour above FOUR CENTS) together with types 3+4+5, intense blue colour and fresh original gum, light creasing (not apparent from face) and a very light small stain at right, undoubtedly one of the most important items of this issue and stated by Townsend & Howe (page 37) as being unique with no blocks recorded.

Provenance: This strip has a fantastic pedigree as it has adorned the prestigious collections of Philipp von Ferrary (1921), Alfred Caspary (1957), Josiah Lily (1967) and John E. du Pont (2014). Last sold at auction in 2021 for the equivalent of CHF 16’980 including commission
